About Us

Karen earned her BA in English from DePauw University, with concentrations in Italian and Art History. She also holds an MS in Social Policy from Northwestern University. After teaching high school English for ten years, Karen followed a different passion for antiques and history, gaining retail experience by importing antiques from France and England. She opened Trousseaux in 2001, closely followed by Hinsdale Lighting in 2005. What primarily began with decorative lighting soon expanded to include lighting design services and specialty lighting; Hinsdale Lighting is now a full-service lighting design firm and retailer. Beyond this, Karen envisions a broadened path to encompass more comprehensive residential design projects. Though a hopeless Starbucks addict, Karen seems to run on a self-generated energy. Amongst her many talents, she is very good at identifying patterns and the next “it” design wave. She lives in Hinsdale with her husband, Paul and her sons, Henry and Jonathan.
